Some awesome info

So as I sit here, inside for the day due to some wintery conditions, I have been thinking about all the great resources for information (and some entertainement) that I've found over the past three years while researching ecovillages, communes and collectives. I thought that today I would share them.

News and Current Events:

http://www.naturalnews.com/ This website is great as long as you take it with a grain of salt. The writer, Mike Adams, is a bit nuts, but he has a lot of good starting points for information on alternative health and news.

http://www.organicconsumers.org/ I prefer this one over all others. A great way to see what Monsanto is up to and the policy that could effect those in the organic agriculture fields.

http://www.commondreams.org/ Another good news site. Like all others though, take most things with a grain of salt.

http://www.greenisthenewred.com/ I love this website. It outlines the demonization of ecological activists and animal rights activists with news updates and commentary. It's a great one.

Seeds:

All my favorites.

Farm/ Survival/ Awesome Info:

www.journeytoforever.org/farm_library.html This has a ton of PDFs on everything you could ever want to know. Even the Humanure Handbook.

http://www.rootsvt.com/ An awesome traditional skills school in VT.

http://www.primitiveways.com/ Primitive living skills and info.

http://www.infoshop.org/ Their library is full of great information for the DIY life.

www.soilandhealth.org/index.html Awesome resources about soil, radical agriculture and ruralism.

http://www.primitivism.com/ Info about rewilding, primitivism and simplifying.

www.ic.org/nica/resouce.htm IC website with lots of info for developing community/ communes.

Well that's all for today, I'll add more later. Hope this helps.

In other news I am still surfing the web for land but I haven't found any very promising pieces, stay tuned my darlings for updates.

Much News

So, I know no one has probably looked at this ever/ in forever so I am going to update anyway.

As any of you know, Maple Hill Farm as we knew it is no more, but a new farm/ community is still in the works. Becky ( myself) is moving to North Caroilna to look for some land/ learn more and find a lovely location for our community to begin. The combination of family troubles and land issues have forced us to look elsewhere to start our community and from now on I will be using this blog to post pictures of possible land and ask questions about how you all feel about it.
love and rage (as Kylie would say)
Becky

So stay tuned and give me lots of feedback.

It's been a long time!

Hey all,
We've all been busy this spring, and we finally have got some time to devote to the land. Sage and Becky are at the farm for a few months with others stopping in to help. Ryan surprised us this weekend and helped out a ton. Much appreciated. We've planted a small kitchen garden, and met some new friends locally at Ebb and Flow Farm. It is really a big motivator and re-invigorator to meet like minded individuals in a largely conservative place, and we hope we can collaborate and celebrate together in the future. The horses are doing well and the goats are cheerfully eating the invasive japanese knotweed that has so kindly taken a liking to our farm's special ecology. PLease come visit us this summer, we would love to see everyone!

Spring is on its Way

Hey all,
As spring makes its way back, we hear the birds singing and even saw a few robins the other day. We are having farm meetings every Wed. night now at 7 p.m. to get more done. We are currently working on our community bylaws and policies, quite a task. We're also planning our summer of work up at the farm.

Becky, Eli and Sage attended the NOFA-VT winter conference and learned a ton this weekend, it was amazing to be around so many motivated, awesome farmers.

Recent Journey

Hello all!

We have have some get meetings recently and if you'd like to check their info, please see the wiki:
http://maplehillfarm.wikispaces.com. It is a great resource. This weekend four of us traveld ot the farm to deliver two goats and then headed over to New York to see Diana Leafe Christensen talk about intentional communities at Common Fire Housing Co-op. It was spectacular. If you haven't read her book, do it now.

The November 14th Meeting

The meeting went very well and our vision statement was finally drafted (for now). I'm sure we will see it change as we do in the future. Our new dry erase board is a great help, and also potluck dinner is too. To read the new vision statement check out our new Wikispace at:

www.maplehillfarm.wikispaces.com

Thanks to Sage for getting that going. Hope to see everyone at the Dec. 6th meeting where we can start talking about getting our 501 (d) status and writing our Bylaws. making your own mini- government sure seems daunting, but also incredibly exciting.
